How to check IGCSE Maths grade boundaries

Grade boundaries belong to a specific qualification and exam series. A percentage from one practice paper cannot establish an official grade. Find the appropriate published Pearson document and match the qualification and tier before interpreting a total.

Find the official document

Choose International GCSE and the required exam series. Locate Mathematics A and confirm the qualification code. Read the document’s notes on total marks, tiers and how the boundaries are reported; do not mix results from a different qualification or assessment route.

Use practice scores carefully

A single timed paper is evidence about the skills sampled in that attempt. It is not the complete qualification result. If you compare a set of practice papers with historical boundaries, use a matched set and describe the comparison as a revision indicator, with the session clearly stated.

What to do with the comparison

  • Identify unfinished questions and recoverable method errors before focusing on the grade label.
  • Use a later independent attempt to check whether corrections lasted.
  • Ask a teacher to review uncertain marking before relying on a total.
  • Never assume that a historical threshold will be the threshold in a future examination.
