How to mark an Edexcel IGCSE Maths past paper
A reliable review starts before the first mark is awarded. Match the paper exactly, use authorised marking material and preserve enough working to explain each decision.
Before marking
- Confirm qualification, session, tier, paper number and R variant.
- Check every script page is present and in order.
- Use the matching mark scheme and any permitted examiner guidance.
Mark one question at a time
Read the final answer and the working. Identify which marking points are evidenced; do not award a method mark merely because a final answer resembles the correct one. Record uncertainty instead of guessing at unclear handwriting.
Finish with reconciliation
- Check the marks total matches the paper maximum.
- Revisit blank, crossed-out and alternative-method responses.
- Group lost marks by cause and topic before planning revision.
