How to review mistakes after a past paper
The useful output of a past paper is not only a percentage. It is a short list of specific decisions and skills to correct before the next attempt.
Classify the cause
- Knowledge gap
- Wrong method selection
- Arithmetic or algebra slip
- Misread question or unit
- Insufficient working or poor communication
- Time pressure
Write a correction
Redo the question without copying the mark scheme. Then write one sentence explaining why the new method works and one cue that would help you recognise the same structure next time.
Retest
Use a different question on the same skill after a delay. A copied correction shows recognition; a successful delayed retest is stronger evidence of learning.
